Guba makes quarterfinals

Negrense Martina Guba got back at her Indian tormentor yesterday to reach the quarterfinals of the Asian 14-Under Tennis Championships at the Bahrain Tennis Club in Juffair.

The 14-year-old wonder from La Carlota City, Negros Occidental exacted revenge against Anushka Bargava, dealing her a 7-6, 6-1 defeat.

Bargava stopped Guba, 6-3, 6-2, in the semifinals of the Riffa Views Cup 2007 last week.

Next up for Guba is American Natasha Rizvi, whom she will face for a place in the semifinals today.

Guba blanked her Pakistani foe in the round of 32 Tuesday, her father-coach Socrates told the DAILY STAR yesterday.

Guba claimed another international title to her collection Sunday, teaming up with Adelle Boey to rule the girls' doubles event of the Riffa Cup.

The 14-year-old Guba and Boey squeaked past the American pair of Rizvy and Wolny, 6-4, 4-6, 10-8, in the finals.*CPT
