Truck drags Noreco lines;
causes 7-hour brownout

A trailer truck loaded with cargo dragged electrical wires of the Negros Oriental Electric Cooperative at about 9 a.m. Monday, causing a seven-hour brownout from the northern Dumaguete areas to Poblacion, Amlan, Negros Oriental.

Nobody was hurt in the incident that occurred along the North National Highway of Bantayan, in Dumaguete involving a truck owned by the JBEL Trucking Services driven by Edwin Pace.

Witnesses said the truck dragged the electrical wires, and destroyed two electrical posts, and four transformers. Three other posts, as well as cable television and telephone wires, were subsequently damaged.

Sibulan residents near
Okoy River evacuated

Residents near the Okoy River in Brgy. Magatas, Sibulan, Negros Oriental, were evacuated Tuesday, due to fear it might overflow because of typhoon “Lando.”

Magatas Kagawad Edgar Ablir said yesterday the residents were advised to transfer to higher grounds, to be safe in case of floodings.

The storm hit some portions of Central Visayas , including Cebu , and some areas in Western Visayas , Monday night.

DAR releases P2.7M
for livelihood projects

The Department of Agriculture in Central Visayas released P2.7 million Tuesday for five livelihood projects in various rural-based organizations in Siquijor province.

The projects are under the Phase 2 program of Livelihood Enhancement for Agriculture Development implemented through the National Agricultural and Fishery Council.

Agriculture and Fishery Council Regional Chairman, Efren dela Cruz turned over the check to recipients groups, at rites witnessed by Siquijor Vice Gov. Jesus Cortes and other provincial officials.
