Urban Angels conduct
missions in Neg. Occ.

The Urban Angels of St. Michael Hospital in Toronto, Canada is holding a medical-surgical mission until Saturday in various hospitals in Negros Occidental.

The 28-man team will be in Bago City, Pulupandan, Valladolid, San Enrique, Pontevedra and La Carlota City which cover the Inter-Local Health Zone Midland Negros, a Capitol press release said. The group paid a courtesy call on Gov. Joseph Maraņon at the Capitol recently.

The group started its missionary work in 2005 and is being assisted by the Provincial Health Office of Negros Occidental. They will also conduct a similar activity Feb. 25 to 27, in the Province of Guimaras, the press release added.*

OpSmile doctors arrive

United States and Manila-based surgeons, anesthesiologists and pediatricians led by Dr. Laurence Loh are arriving today in Bacolod City for the Operational Smile International mission Feb. 22 to March 3, at the Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City, Negros Occidental.

A press release from OpSmile Philippines said that a cranio-facial surgeon with special trainings in the US, Dr. Loh, is this year's OpSmile Silay mission field medical director. The group includes nurses and medical students who will do volunteer works.

Also arriving is OpSmile International mission coordinator George Yarbrough, Edith Yotoko-Villanueva, OpSmile Philippines president and HOPE-OpSmile Silay mission overall coordinator said in the press release.

Gian Trebol will serve as OpSmile Philippines coordinator, it added. Gov. Joseph Maraņon welcome members of OpSmile International mission and commended the H.O.P.E. Volunteers Foundation Inc., now headed by businessman-civic leader Leonito "Diotay" Lopue, the press release said.*

ACTION launching set

The Alliance of Concerned Transport in Occidental Negros will be launched 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Liga ng mga Barangay Building, San Juan Street, in Bacolod City, a press release from the group said.

The event will be preceded by a caravan from the Capitol Lagoon and end up with a symposium at the Liga building at 3 p.m. The launching will be attended by various representatives from non-government organizations, private companies, local affiliates, and government transport agencies, the press release said.

Officers of the group are Teddy Macainan - president, Salvador Soliguen - vice president, Robert Ceasico - secretary, Roy Villadelgado - treasurer, and Ramiro Oroso - auditor/PIO.

Members of the Board of Trustees are Edgardo Rodriguez, Loreto Law-a, Nelson Alunan and Alan Jacildo, the press release added.*
