The Dumaguete City government has found a fund source to start
the P120-million diversion road project that will connect the west
portion of the city to Bacong town in the south and the municipality
of Sibulan in the north.
City Administrator Dominador Dumalag told the DAILY STAR that
the Regional Development Council of Central Visayas will source
the fund from the national government.
The RDC-Region 7 is headed by Oriental Negros Gov. George Arnaiz.
Dumalag said the planned road construction of the city and
the Department of Public Works and Highways will start as soon as
initial funding is available.
Lot owners in areas to be affected by the road construction
will be consulted and the bidding process will follow.
Dumalag said the project can be completed with dispatch and will
cost cheaper, if it is devolved to the local government, like the
case of the concreting of the portion of the Flores Avenue in barangays
Looc and Piapi, that was jointly undertaken by the city and provincial
governments. In that project, the estimate of the Philippine Ports
Authority was P18 million, but it was completed with only P12 million.*RA
