Province a favorite
tourist spot: DoT

Oriental Negros has a good chance of becoming the favorite tourism destination in the country, Tourism Secretary Ace Durano said recently.

Durano, who was with President Gloria Arroyo on her recent visit to the province, said he believes Oriental Negros has gained publicity in the international market by hosting international activities like the 2nd International Rondalla Festival and the 10th East Asian Nursing Forum for Nurses in Dumaguete City.

Durano said the holding of international activities gives free advertisement and promotions for the host local government unit. The best marketing strategy is made through the mouth, he said, and added that what is needed is the strong motivation and political will of leaders in unifying their efforts in promoting the province through different avenues.

Durano said he was amazed at how the province had grown so fast in terms of infrastructure development. He said the convention center in Dumaguete can also be a good venue where the province can host conventions and conferences.

Besides, he said the province has many beautiful natural tourism attractions for foreign tourists, and he urged local government leaders to take care and preserve these.

He also encouraged the private sector to invest in hotels and accommodations for more tourist arrivals.*MA
