The Dumaguete City government has found a fund source to start the P120-million diversion road project that will connect the west portion of the city to Bacong town in the south and the municipality of Sibulan in the north.

City Administrator Dominador Dumalag told the DAILY STAR that the Regional Development Council of Central Visayas will source the fund from the national government.

The RDC-Region 7 is headed by Oriental Negros Gov. George Arnaiz.

Province a favorite
tourist spot: DoT

Oriental Negros has a good chance of becoming the favorite tourism destination in the country, Tourism Secretary Ace Durano said recently.

Durano, who was with President Gloria Arroyo on her recent visit to the province, said he believes Oriental Negros has gained publicity in the international market by hosting international activities like the 2nd International Rondalla Festival and the 10th East Asian Nursing Forum for Nurses in Dumaguete City.

Top PNP officials of Dumaguete and of Oriental Negros met yesterday with 30 barangay captains and agreed that the Philippine National Police in the city will hold weekly consultations with barangay residents to promote a more effective maintenance of peace and order.

The group also decided that every weekend, preferably Saturdays, police will visit one barangay for a dialog with residents. A dialog will be held today in Barangay Tinago.

Police provincial director Senior Supt. Ramon Melvin Buenafe said the talks will enable them to know the concerns in the barangays, and how the community and police can effectively work together.
