SM City in Bacolod is putting up its 2nd Waste Market Fair on the theme "May Kwarta
sa Basura," Saturday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the north terminal of the mall, to help
promote recycling and proper waste disposal, a press release from the management
said. Mallgoers can bring and sell their junk appliances,
used ink/toner, cartridges, empty bottles and tin cans, scrap paper, cartons,
aluminum containers, PC monitors and even used lead acid batteries. This is in
support to Republic Act 9003, or the Solid Waste Management Act. The market fair
will be regularly held every second Saturday of the month, the press release said.
Buyers or junkshop owners who wish to join the fair may call the SM City Bacolod
Admin Office at Tel. Nos. 468-0168 to 69, the press release added.* back

DPWH
district tops evaluation
The 1st Engineering District of the Department of Public Works and Highways in
Negros Occidental topped the Quality Control Performance in Project Implementation
for 2006, a press release from the DPWH district in Talisay City, said.
The district headed by Sanny Boy Oropel also obtained the same outstanding rating
in 2005, besting 15 other engineering districts in Western Visayas, based on the
Quality Assurance Unit assessments conducted by the DPWH central and national
offices. Results revealed that the district garnered 94.87
percent, based also on the effectiveness of quality control and implementation
which include timeliness of testing materials on the actual project use, among
other factors. Oropel was received the Oustanding District
Engineer award for 2006 given by DPWH regional director Rolando Asis, the same
recognition he got in 2005, the press release added.* back
