A French national eluded arrest in a raid conducted by operatives of Zamboanguita police last week, in Sitio Mag-Abo, Barangay Malu-ay, Zamboanguita, Oriental Negros.

The policemen were armed with a search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 42 Presiding Judge Marie Rose Paras against Patrick Chaffraix, for violation of Section 4 of Republic Act No. 9208, or The Anti-Trafficking of Persons Act of 2003.

Chaffraix , who is of legal age, is separated from his Filipina wife, and presently residing at Sitio Mag-abo, Barangay Maluay in Zamboanguita, police said.

A sheriff of the Regional Trial Court in Guihulngan, Oriental Negros, was shot dead Monday night, while on his way home from the Negros Oriental State University where he is taking up law.

Police identified the victim as Ricky Montijar, 45, a sophomore law student of NORSU-Guihulngan campus who, initial investigation revealed, was waylaid and shot by unidentified persons. Montijar, a sheriff of the RTC Branch 64 under Presiding Judge Mario Trinidad in Guihulngan, was on his way home to Carmenville Subdivision in Barangay Bataria after 9 p.m. when the incident happened, investigation added.

Forty-six inmates are undergoing training in pandan twisting and weaving under the Basic Skills Training Program of the Kabankalan City government in coordination with the Department of Education and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.

The program was launched recently at the BJMP compound with jail warden Chief Inspector Rizaldy Navarro giving the welcome message, a press release from the Kabankalan government said.

Present were Vice Mayor Delia Anacan, Councilor Anecito Villaluz Jr., Education Supevisor Bernadin Bendo, trainer Josephine Adad and Technology and Livelihood Development coordinator Gladysmyr Diego.
