Dinner with Patis and friends

Everyone dreams of wearing a Patis Tesoro - whether it be for a wedding gown, a debutante's ball, a fashion show or any important diplomatic affair. Her name is the byword in Filipiniana attire for both men and women. There is nothing quite like a Patis Tesoro original. Her barongs for men have unmistakable touch of elegance and perfect fit. Which is why those who can afford it, make it a point to dress up in her to-die-for creations.

Recently, popular party host Boy Montilla, welcomed Patis to Bacolod with an intimate dinner party at his ancestral home. The place looked so inviting with lights glittering on the branches of the old, old trees in the courtyard. We were happily exchanging pleasantries with other guests when Patis walked with her friends, Robert Malengreau, a Belgian international film critic who made the trip with her to Bacolod, and prominent Bacoleņa, Suzzette Agustin. I was immediately struck by Patis' natural charm and graciousness.

She is completely devoid of airs - so nice and down-to-earth. It was a mix of excellent company, sparkling conversation and good food. With perfect company like these, the dinner conversation was absolutely scintillating.

Robert Malengreau enthralled us with his experiences with film makers all over the world, including Asian royalty. Patis and Boy had the time of their lives chatting about textile materials and fashion. She raved over Boy's art collection from his trips abroad. Her newest project is Viaje del Sol, the way of the sun, from San Pablo to Quezon. It is a directory of wonderful places to tour in the Philippines with a special guide on where to go and what to do. It was such an enjoyable gathering that we sat and chatted long after dinner was over.

Even the buko pie dessert was a big hit! Patis and Robert said it was the best they had ever tasted. All guests sampled the delicious desserts - Dr. Bong's refrigerator cake and Suzzette's Blueberry cheesecake. All I could think of was, "There goes my diet!" What a pleasant evening it was.*
