DTI warns public vs.
contractors without license

The Department of Trade and Industry has warned the public to avoid dealing with unlicensed contractors in anticipation of construction activity peaking this summer.

Trade Undersecretary Zenaida Maglaya said in an advisory that a contractor needs a license to ensure that it has adequate technical and financial capability to engage in the construction business.

A license also guarantees that construction projects follow building safety standards, it added.

Maglaya also reminded contractors to file early for the renewal of their licenses for contracting fiscal year 2007-2008 before the June 30 deadline.

Contractors based outside Metro Manila may file for license renewal at the nearest DTI regional or provincial office.*NLG
