3 board seats in city
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The Negros Oriental 2 Electric Cooperative is pushing for the redistricting of Dumaguete City for purposes of NORECO Board representation.

Dumaguete now has the biggest number of member-consumers at 18,370 and 27,895 electric connections. It is the biggest in load consumption, has the most number of barangays and revenues, but is represented only by one director. The member-consumers committee headed by Dr. Profiteza Lim passed a resolution to divide the city into three districts: North, South and West, which was approved by the board of directors.

Institutional Services Department head Leovigildo Elmaco said, the redistricting is in the agenda of the general annual assembly of the cooperative on Sunday, at the Lamberto Macias Sports Complex, in Dumaguete.

He enjoined concessionaires to attend and cast their votes.

Meanwhile, the proposed P85-million loan to finance various capital projects of the electric firm, will be subject to the approval of the general assembly.

The loan is intended for the forecasted loads of the cooperative and to maintain good electric service as required by Republic Act 9136, otherwise known as the Electric Power Industry Reform Act or the EPIRA law and regulations of the Energy Regulatory Commission.

The amount will also be used for protective devices of power sub-stations, buy breakers, electronic reclosers, vacuum circuit breakers, systems loss reduction program, acquire more 3-phase meters, as well as software to monitor the systems loss.

Elmaco said the cooperative is acquiring additional electric poles, conduct priority line project upgrading and to computerizing its operations.*JG
