Jeffrey Chan, the former University of St. La Salle standout now
playing in the Philippine Basketball League, yesterday said he is
"happy" over his selection to the Harbour Centre-Philippine Team
that will see action in the Southeast Asian Basketball Association
Champions Cup from April 9-13 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
One of the finest amateurs in the country today, Chan said
he is looking forward to donning the RP colors. "It's an honor (to
see action for the country)," Chan said in a text message to the
DAILY STAR. Asked what he can contribute to the squad, the left-handed
Chan, who stands 6-2, said the team can maximize his outside shooting,
which is a critical part of a team's success in the international
game.
The SEABA Champions Cup is the first FIBA-sanctioned tournament,
where the Philippines is competing, after the basketball body suspended
the country from all international tournaments for close to two
years until last month. Hapee coach Jun Noel, who once served as
Negros Slashers mentor in the now defunct-Metropolitan Basketball
Association, is also a member of the RP coaching staff. *CPT
