DOLE bares pay rules
for Nov. 1-2 holidays

The Department of Labor and Employment yesterday issued pay rules for the Nov. 1 and 2 special non-working days.

If the day is unworked, the "no work, no pay" policy shall apply unless there is a favorable company policy, practice or collective bargaining agreement granting payment on a special day even if the day is unworked, DOLE Secretary Arturo Brion said in the agency's website.

He added that if the day is worked, the employee will be paid the daily rate plus 30 percent for the first eight hours of work, and for work in excess of eight hours, plus 30 percent of the hourly rate on said day.

If the day falls on the employee's rest day and is worked, the employees will be paid the daily rate plus 50 percent on the first eight hours and additional 30 percent of the hourly rate for work in excess of eight hours, the DOLE website added.

Brion called on all employers to observe the pay rules on the special non-working days.

Earlier, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, by virtue of Proclamation No. 1211 issued on January 10, 2007, declared Nov. 2 a special non-working day to give Filipinos more time to observe the All Saints Day tradition.*
