Escalante runners rule
Mambukal Team Relay

Long distance runners from Escalante City prevailed over their rivals from local government units and running teams in Negros Occidental to dominate both the Open and Under 19 categories of the 2012 Mambukal Team Relay, one of the sports activities in this year’s Panaad Sa Negros celebration.

Navigating the distance from Mambukal Resort to Panaad Stadium in 1 hour 26 minutes and 9 seconds, the Escalante City team beat closest rival Bago City (1:26.49) to the finish line to rule the Open Category.

Bago settled for the first runner-up honors while Himamaylan City, also the hometown of talented runners from Negros, landed at third place with a time of 1 hour 30 minutes and 2 seconds.

Manapla runners took the fourth place with a time of 1:33.43, while Victorias City (1:39.30) completed the top five finishers.

Testing their stamina in long distance run, young runners from Bacolod Tay Tung High School Team A booked the 6th spot, Calatrava trailed at 7th place, Sagay City, 8th place, Tay Tung Team B, 9th place, and Murcia, 10th place.

Escalante also ruled the Under 19 category with a time of 1:30.17, leaving behind Victorias City (1:31.50), to pick up the first runner-up honors, while Bacolod City Team A (1:32.27) was at third place.

The runners took off from Mambukal Resort yesterday morning and finished at the Panaad Stadium with several stopovers in different areas in Murcia and Bacolod.

A project of the Provincial Sports Office, the Mambukal Team Relay is one of the sports activities organized under the supervision of Executive Assistant to the Governor for Sports Angel Verdeflor.*NAB
