2GO Travel sees
2.8M passengers

MANILA – 2GO Travel, the country’s biggest shipping line, is aggressively exploring new routes especially tourist destination, as it targets to carry 2.8 million passengers this 2012.

Stephen Rey Tagud, 2GO Travel Chief Commercial Officer for Passage, said the company expects to carry 2.8 million passengers this year, helped by aggressive tourism promotions.

2GO Travel, the consolidated passenger ships and fast ferries of Negros Navigation, SuperFerry, SuperCat and Cebu Ferries has the biggest fleet that operate in routes linking Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao. The ships carry over two million passengers every year.

2GO started servicing the Batangas-Caticlan route last March 1, aimed at advancing the Batangas’ economy and further boost tourism in the country’s famous destination, Boracay as well as its neighboring provinces.

“We are delighted to expand our offerings to provide Filipinos a more convenient and economical way to travel to Boracay, a testament to the commitment of 2GO Travel to support government programs that will benefit the travel and tourism industry,” Tagud said.

He had also earlier said that 2GO wants people to discover the Philippines and see the many islands through sea travel. Most importantly, we will make tourism and travel affordable for budget conscious travelers.

Tagud pointed out the increasing number of foreigners, mostly backpackers as well as groups of students and families who boarded the ships.

He said 2GO is developing travel package to make the experience of passengers memorable.

For Cagayan de Oro-Manila, they can make a stop in Cebu port to load or unload cargoes, Tagud said.

Passengers, on the other hand, can have a three-hour city tour that includes the visit to the Magellan’s Cross, souvenir shops or eat native dishes.

The shipping company sees potential markets for students taking up Hotel and Restaurant Management, Tourism, seafaring as well as grade school students to take sea travel for educational tours.

He added that “companies can also hold conference inside the ship and hold teambuilding activities in their chosen island destination, as part of incentive program for employees.”*PNA
