Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr. is set to extend the area of the Mambukal Resort in Barangay Minoyan, Murcia possibly by acquiring an adjacent 15-hectare farm lot a government press release said.
Marañon said the area will be used for parking spaces.
The provincial government is negotiating with several employees of the Provincial Capitol who own the lots included in the 15 hectares. The lots were earlier awarded to these employees, but the provincial government intends to buy them back, he said.
Already, 28 cottages have been constructed at the Mambukal Resort at the cost of P27 million. Eleven more are expected to be completed next week.
Mambukal drew around 10,000 guests and tourists during the Holy Week and generated an income of almost P1 million only four days.
The resort, which has an annual net income of P10 million, is always fully booked. Thus, Marañon said, he considers it one of the highest generating Provincial Capitol enterprises under the Economic Enterprise Development Department.
A Japanese architect is now working for free on a swimming pool around the "hot sulfur spring" in Mambukal, the press release said added.*
