Mayor: Help MassKara dancers win

Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia is calling on Bacoleños to support the quest of MassKara Festival dancers to bag the top prize for the grand final competition of ABS-CBN’s “Showtime”, at noon today.

At stake is P3 million as cash prize, with P 1 million to be given to the local government, a press release from the city said yesterday.

The dance showdown is unique because each participating team competing onsite at the ABS-CBN studio is required to organize a performing group offsite at their locality. Then both the onsite team and the offsite supporting group are rated by the judges, the press release said.

Leonardia gave the full support of his administration to the MassKara Festival dancers, particularly in organizing the offsite support group performing at the lagoon area of the Bacolod Government Center.

He said he is elated by the very strong performance of the dancers and is grateful to them, and the ABS-CBN, for showcasing the City of Smiles and the MassKara Festival to millions of Filipinos watching the “Showtime”, the press release said.

This will surely boost the tourism promotion of the City and the MassKara, Leonardia added in the press release.

The MassKara dancers have hurdled three elimination rounds: the daily last March 16; weekly, March 17; and monthly, April 14.

Even Rep. Albee Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) has thrown his support to the MassKara dancers, who are prepared to present new and exciting things at the onsite arena, and at the offsite area, where a large group of dance and cultural groups, including the Victorias City Kadalag-an dancers, will be joined by students, city and barangay officials and employees, the press release said.

The successful foray of the MassKara into the “Showtime” is being led by Toto Bantolo, a teacher of the Domingo Lacson National High School, who is a topnotch choreographer; Boyet Andrada, another topnotch choreographer; and Nidz Villones, an event coordinator and wedding planner, the press release added. *
