Cash rewards up for
nursing topnotchers

CEBU CITY – The 19 Cebu-based topnotchers in the board examination for nurses from four schools in Cebu City will receive cash incentives of P10,000 to P50,000.

Abigail Batas Gases, a southwestern University graduate, who placed ninth, is among those who will get the incentive.

SWU Nursing College acting dean Dr. Belinda Rosales said Gases, who graduated cum laude, will get back 40 percent of the total tuition she paid.

Rosales said the school has a 71.43 percent passing rate. Out of 154 who took the board examination, 110 passed.

University of Cebu president Augusto Go said he will give Vanesa Migallos Tocle at least P50,000.

“The good news comes at the time we are launching the tenth anniversary of UC Banilad. It's a happy occasion,” Go said.

The 12 topnotchers from Cebu Normal University will also receive cash awards between P10,000 and P15,000, nursing college dean Dr. Daisy Palompon said.

The cream of the crop from Velez College will receive about the same amount, college dean Dr. Carol Kangleon said.

Both CNU and Velez College were ranked among the top 10 performing schools for the 2012 Nursing Licensure Examinations by the Professional Regulation Commission.*PNA
