Residents told to
enroll in PhilHealth

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Mayor Enrique Gonzales of Valencia town, Negros Oriental, yesterday said residents should enroll with the Philippine Health Insurance to avail of medical benefits, instead of believing in the promises of politicians.

Gonzales was reacting to the statement of former Mayor Edgar Teves that he will increase the health subsidy of Valencianos if he wins in the May 2013 elections.

Teves said it was during his incumbency that a subsidy of P2,000 was given to patients, adding the local government can afford to increase the subsidy to P5,000.

Gonzales, however, said that in the last six years of Teves’s term, only about 280 Valencianos had availed of the subsidy. He added that PhilHealth members can get more benefits when they are hospitalized.

He said the P2,000 health subsidy was given only when a patient is admitted to a private hospital.*JG
