NOPPO tapes
muzzles of guns
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office yesterday taped the muzzles of the firearms of policemen assigned to the headquarters in Agan-an, Sibulan, Negros Oriental, in compliance with a directive from PNP Region 7 director, Chief Supt. Marcelo Garbo.

The Provincial Mobile Group, Special Weapons and Tactics team, and police stations all over the province, have been directed to do the same, Supt. Roy Abella, deputy provincial director for administration, said.

Abella said the annual activity is conducted as a proactive measure against the indiscriminate firing of guns by police personnel during the Yuletide season.

The directive includes the firearms privately-owned by the police. Civilian gun owners are also advised to refrain from firing their guns during the Christmas and New Year celebrations, he added.

Policemen, fire and jail personnel who indiscriminately fire their guns will be criminally liable under the Revised Penal Code, and can be administratively charged for violation of Memorandum Circular 93-024 of the National Police Commission, that carries the penalty of dismissal from the service of erring personnel.*JG
