Who got Iggy’s release?

Rolly Espina

It is ironic that with three claimants for his remains, until now we are not sure how the London authorities may have decided to whom they willgive the remains of the late Rep. Ignacio Arroyo.

I was surprised to learn that Iggy had a first wife. And the one against whom he filed annulment case is the second, Alicia Morales Arroyo. In short, she is the one he truly married. Then, the third claimant is Grace Ibuna, his caregiver who stayed with him until the end.

That must have made the UK officials scratch their heads as to whom to turn over the remains.

But that is not over. When the remains reach the Philippines today where will it lie for the wake?Of course, the law stipulates clearly that it should be with the wife. And since their marriage remains intact, I supposed Alicia, the one, wins.

I hope that no major trouble erupts after that so that the House of Representatives can hold the wake for Iggy. Otherwise, should a row develop, the most likely thing is that the only way the problem could be resolved is for the House to prevent a scandal from erupting on the floor of the chamber.

That, however, is the least of the problem that can crop up.Can Mike Aroyo not claim ownership of the P2.3 billion bank deposit of Jose Pidal? Did he leave behind a will which cedes the amount back to Mike, his older brother?

That will be a griskfor the mill of the media if a major controversy erupts over Iggy’s wealth afterwards and nothing documented has been left behind stipulating whom they now belong to.

Frankly, I don’t think Iggy had ever imagined the complications his demise could have generated. I just hope that he had done his homework well, and long prepared for the consequence of his death.

Well, I hope the RTC of Pasay City will be charitably disposed to allow former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to attend the wake for Iggy. She really needs that relief over the death of her favorite brother-in-law.And, hopefully, help thresh outa solution to the problem that I am sure is going to erupt soon after he is be buried.

These things pale in comparison to the problem of who will run in Iggy’s Fifth District.

Reports said there are several interested parties. Some had already indicated their desire to run there. Like, for example, Binalbagan Mayor Alejandro Mirasol and Board Member Melvin Ibañez.But then there are also Board Member Emilio Yulo III, and Board Member Enrique Montilla

Then, there are also Kasangga Party member Ma. Lourdes Arroyo, sister of the late Ignacio Arroyo. Also Isabela Mayor Francis Malabor, Franklin Fuentebella, and former Moises Padilla Councilor Dolly Yasa. And, of course, Grace Ibuna, who had several years back already announced her plan to step in his shoes.

And of course, you have to take into account a return bid by former Rep. Apolinario Lozada Jr. whom Iggy had defeated for the Fifth District post.

Of course, a lot depends on whom the UNA will choose as Iggy’s successors. But definitely, at the outset, there is bound to be merry mix-up.

Oh, well, we can only watch with bated breath for what happens next.

Have you noticed something? Well, what is really is missing are major announcements from Malacañang on what the President has started to implement in anticipation of the future of the country.

Instead, we have stories about P-Noys confirmation that he had dated a Korean TV and radio personality – Grace Lee – who had earned local fame in the entertainment scenes.

And, of course, the latest that Ronald Llamas remains secure as President Benigno Aquino’s political adviser after he had been caught by a photographer buying pirated DVD at Quezon City Mall last week.

He still performs the role he was brought into the Cabinet for. So, therefore, he enjoy the trust of the President.

Llamas reportedly apologized to him for the gaffe that would undermine the anti-piracy campaign of the government.

So what’s new?Only the dreary and irritatingly boring impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona.

In short, the circus for lack of substantial policy decisions.*
