Solar power investors from South Korea conducted a field test of a 3MV solar power plant in Brgy, Blumentrit, Murcia, Negros Occidental, recently to market their products to potential investors in the province.
Roberto Montelibano, governor of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry said the Apple Korea Company installed the unit and it is now supplying 2,500 watts to one of his buildings in Murcia.
The government should start venturing into “power mix” where electric power comes from different sources, Montelibano said.
He said a portion of his electric consumption is powered by the solar plant while the rest is powered by Central Negros Electric Cooperative.
Montelibano also said they will use the unit during demonstrations to prospective investors who want to have their own solar plants.
Though the cost of production of the solar plant is currently expensive in the Philippines, he said, time will come when people and private investors will resort to solar plants as their source of electricity because of its long term effect and savings.*LTG
