Consultation needed over order
for drivers, fare collectors: DOLE

The Department of Labor and Employment in Western Visayasstill has to consult with the transport industry before the implementation of the department order issued by Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz on the employment and work conditions of conductors and drivers.

Ponciano Ligutom, DOLE regional director saidthe department order has to be implemented throughout the country but Western Visayas still has to meet with the transport group to discuss the rules.

He said the order provides that wages of drivers and conductors are performance-based and  must be fixed. It means  that they will receive not less the minimum wage plus their commission, based on their “road performance,” he added.

He said drivers and conductors are also entitled to all wage-related benefits  like holiday pay and overtime pay and social benefits from PhilHealth, Social Security System, and Pag-Ibig like those of the regular workers.

Ligutom said that they also have to meet with the Wages and Productivity Board in the region to discuss the technicalities on the implementation of the department order.*LTG
