SP, buyers agree
on sheep sale

The Committee on Provincial Livestock Management and Dispersal of Negros Occidental and prospective buyers agreed on the sale of the provincial government’s sheep from Australia at P16,000 for females and P25,000 formales at a public hearing at the Provincial Capitol yesterday, Dr. Renante Decena, provincial veterinarian, said.

Decena said the prices were decided on the consensus of the buyers and the committee members.

He said board Member Miller Serondo, chairpersonof the Committee on Agriculture of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, will endorse the ordinance for the establishmentthe Negros First Ranch and the sale of farm produce today for the final reading and approval of the SP members.

At the hearing, they also agreed that the province will provide technical and marketing support, he said.

Serondo also assured that all buyers will receive support from the provincial government through the Provincial Veterinary Office. PVO conducts trainings on sheep management, sheep housing, and other technologies related to sheep production, he added.

Decena said he ispositive about the success of the sheep production and their goal to become the lamb capital of the Philippines as they have the support of the national government through Agriculture Sec. Proceso Alcala.

In his recent visit to Bacolod City during the 79th Philippine Veterinary Medical Association Annual Convention and Scientific Conference held at the L’Fisher Hotel, Alcala said that DA is giving the province a multi-million liquid nitrogen and semen processing plant to be built at the Negros First Ranch in Murcia.

Meanwhile, Decena saidinterested sheep buyers can call the PVO at 434-5924 and 433-6264 for reservations and inquiries.

Vice Gov. Genaro Alvarez, board members Patrick Lacson, Jose Benito Alonso, Salvador Escalante, Mae Javellana and Silay City Mayor Jose Montelibanoattended the public hearing. *LTG
