Water contamination
probed: 2 die, 9 sick

BY CARLA GOMEZ

Two residents of  Sitio Pagula-on, Barangay Carol-an, Kabankalan City, have died while nine others are ill, and an investigation on the possible contamination of their water source is underway, Mayor Isidro Zayco said last night.

The water source of the sitio may have been contaminated because the area above their water reservoir is grazing land for cattle, but this has to be verified, he said.

Dr. Isagani Ayala, Kabankalan Rural Health Unit chief, has been directed to go to the area today to investigate the cause of the deaths and hospitalization of the residents in the area, Zayco said.

Two residents of the Sitio, Carlito Martinez, 51, and Bambi Martinez, 40, died Monday, Zayco said.

Admitted since Monday night at the Lorenzo D. Zayco District Hospital in Kabankalan are Aquil Paculanang 51, Pearly Martinez, 31, Roselyn Martinez, 15 and Richel Martinez, 8, he said.

Admitted yesterday afternoon at LDZDH were Gerian Vicente 5, Jemar Martinez, 5, and Mary Joy Vicente, 3, Zayco added.

To be fetched by City Health Office personnel is the widow of Carlito, Loida, and daughter Shine, 2, who are also ill, he said.*CPG
