Back-to-back
exhibit conducted

Two art groups in Bacolod City mounted a back-to-back exhibit titled “Freedom” at SM City recently, a press release from organizers said.

Each member of Prima Art and Brush Strokes groups decided to define freedom in his or her way, depending on the artist’s take on it.

The artists who participated were Mel Araneta, Gtol Aristorenas, Bing Barriga, Nicoy Colandog, Rez Galvez, Noby Juno, Patty Jane Ku-Ong, Nunistell Fulo-Lee, Butch Libo-on, Carol Salvatierra, Sky Romero, Michelle Ma Belle Tupaz, and Anna Ursal for the Prima Art; and Amira Lihaylihay, Aldirii Marjorie Ann Matriano Ponferrada-Angodung, Leeé Caesar Bantigue Atas, Dondz Batayola, Jeh Mark Bibangco, Marse Asherah Leonidas Cuenca, Jm Zamora Esteban, Jo Anne Gancita, Marq Herrera, Marc Lavaro, Jonevi Melliza, Franco Patriarca, and Harvey Salhay, for the Brush Strokes, the press release also said.

Both groups have been visible in the art scene for each of their own art shows, but the exhibit was their first back-to-back performance, the press release added.*

Daily novena to start for feast
of Our Lady of Mount Carmel

The Carmelite Monastery in Barangay Mandalagan, Bacolod City, will hold a daily novena starting tomorrow, in line with the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel celebration on July 16.

On July 7, Fr. Jess Ebro will be the celebrant and will deliver the homily on “Prayer Transforms…” in the novena mass at 7 a.m., while Fr. Paulo Gamboa Jr. will be the celebrant-homilist for the 5:30 p.m. mass. On July 8, the homily is titled “My great strength is revealed in weakness” with Fr. Gamboa as celebrant-homilist in the morning novena mass and Fr. Mariano Agruda III in the afternoon.

The theme for July 9 is “The Lord, my strength and my song, has become my Savior!” with Fr. Agruda III and Fr. Fernando Peralta as celebrant-homilists in the morning and afternoon mass, respectively; while on July 10, Fr. Romeo Tumonong and Fr. Xavier Olin will be the celebrant-homilists for “Rejoice! Your Faith has made you whole.”

“Mary lived with her eyes fixed on Christ, treasuring his every word” is the theme for the mass to be celebrated by Olin in the morning of July 11, and Fr. Jose Rey Erexima in the afternoon novena mass, at 5:30 p.m.; while on July 12, Fr. Dominic Dexter Somcio and Fr. Miguel Perey will be the celebrant-homilists on “Prayer is coming home to God and to ourselves.”

On July 13, the homily on “Love, through unceasing prayer, casts out all fears” will be delivered by Fr. Jing Baldo and Fr. Joey Mabborang, while the following day, the theme is “At the foot of the Cross, Mary prayed” with Fr. Mabborang and Fr. Richard Escoto as celebrant-homilists.

On July 15, Fr. Escoto will celebrate “The heart that prays is a heart that is attuned to God’s will” in the morning novena mass, and Fr. Bernard Ybiernas-Mapa in the afternoon.

Bishop Vicente Navarra of the Diocese of Bacolod, meanwhile, will be the main celebrant/homilist in the 7:30 a.m. concelebrated mass for the Feast Day on July 16 following the 5:30 a.m. mass with Most Rev. Gerardo Alminaza, auxiliary bishop of Jaro.

A rosary procession will also be held starting at 5:30 p.m. from the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Bata to Carmel, to be followed by a mass with Fr. Noli Blancaflor as celebrant.*
