Driver dies after motorcycle
hit pile of road concrete debris

A freight company employee died on the spot in a motorcycle-related accident at about 2:30 a.m. yesterday near the boundaries of Greensville 1 and 2 subdivisions in Bacolod City.

Police Officer 2 Eliseo Adraneda, traffic investigator, identified the fatality as Basilio Cortejo, 38, of East Homes Subdivision in Brgy. Estefania.

Investigation showed that Cortejo was on his Honda XRM motorcycle and heading east of C.L. Montelibano Drive on his way home after buying burgers, when he accidentally hit a pile of concrete debris beside the road that was being repaired, Andraneda said.

Cortejo was thrown off his motorcycle and hit his head on the ground. The police said the victim may have failed to see the pile as the area was not lighted well.

Tricycle driver Romy Iballa said that before the accident, some of them also nearly hit the mound of concrete debris as they failed to notice it as well, the police added.*APN

Minor killed, another
hurt in stabbing

A group of armed teenagers ganged up on and fatally stabbed a minor, and injured his companion, at Cabahug Street in Brgy. Zone 4, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, on Wednesday.

The 17-year-old fatality succumbed to multiple stab wounds in different parts of his body while his 14-year-old companion is now being treated at the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City, police reports show.

The Cadiz PNP is still investigating the incident that took place as the city marked its 45th Charter Day celebration on July 4.

Investigation showed that the suspects, who were armed with bladed weapons and an ice pick, stabbed the two victims while they were buying mango shakes.*GPB

Bacolod cops seize
illegal guns from 2

Illegal firearms were seized by the police from two men, one of them wanted for child abuse, in Barangays 33 and 35, in Bacolod City Wednesday.

Station 6 policemen arrested Rigor Mondido, 24, of Purok Katilingban in Brgy. Banago, Bacolod, at about 3:30 a.m. at Lopez Jaena Street, after a concerned citizen reported that he accidentally fired his gun.

A pen gun or “sulpak” with live ammunition for a .38 caliber revolver was recovered from Mondido during his arrest, police records show.

Station 1 commander, Chief Insp. Adonis Rosales, also reported the confiscation of a .32 caliber pistol with a magazine loaded with four bullets from Arnulfo Antipatia, 42, of Rodriguez-Baybay, Bacolod.

Antipatia was nabbed by a team, led by Police Officer 2 Felipe Moncatar, at about 4:45 p.m. on the strength of an arrest warrant for child abuse charge issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Philadelfa Pagapong-Agraviador, who set his bail at P80,000, Rosales said.

Records from the Firearm Explosives Security and Guards Section of the Bacolod City Police Office showed there were 5,418 guns with expired licenses in the city as of June 2012.

Of the number, only 216 owners of high-powered firearms and 202 holders of low-powered guns have renewed their permits so far, the police said.*APN

3 wanted men nabbed

Three robbery, theft and homicide suspects were rounded up by the Bacolod City police in barangays Sum-ag, Villamonte and Granada, in their successive operations against wanted personalities, on Wednesday.

Faustino Palermo Jr., of San Dionisio Subdivision in Granada, and Jonil Daza of Abada Escay in Brgy. Vista Alegre, were arrested by Station 5 policemen, led by Senior Insp. Richie Gohee, at about 8:30 a.m.

Daza and Palermo have arrest warrants for theft charges issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Pepito Gellada, Gohee said.

Members of the Bacolod City Intelligence Branch also nabbed Rodrigo Sandigan of Purok Consuelo in Brgy. Villamonte at about 4:40 p.m., on the strength of the warrant for homicide issued by RTC Judge George Patriarca, who set his bail at P40,000.

Station 9 commander, Chief Insp. Placido Gentoleo, meanwhile, reported the apprehension of Ronilo Panoncial, 18, of Purok AC Yulo in Brgy. Sum-ag, Bacolod, at about 5 p.m. by virtue of the arrest warrant for robbery issued by RTC Judge Fernando Elumba.*APN
