Down by seven points with less than a minute left in the game, Boston Finance pulled off an 88-87 victory over Watchmen Daily Journal to improve its record in the 1st PROBAC/LNA7 Invitational Basketball Tournament, Monday night at the West Negros University gym.

The Watchmen had the chance to ice the game as Donald Quilantang had the ball in the dying seconds, but his attempt failed to go in as the time expired.

Boston took the half at 48-38, behind Jerald Abrot’s 14 points and Arvie Chua and Yan Dy’s combined 17 points, while Cesar Tan, Taboy Corriente and Winne Alvarez scored eight points each for Watchmen.

A third quarter 24-15 rally from the Watchmen changed the tone of the game as JM Gonzales and Joed dela Peña combined for 10 points, but Boston managed to hold on to a slim lead with Chua delivering six points and John Villaroman and Eric Baja adding five and four points, respectively.

Pulling out all the stops in the fourth quarter, Boston got a boost from Matt Delis who scored 12 points, while Abrot hit eight markers to turn back the Watchmen.

Abrot led Boston scorers with 22 points, while Chua finished with 19, Delis added 17, Villaroman chipped in 11, Baja with 9, and Dy with 7 points.

In the other match, Ryan Gamboa and Carlo Chu scored 18 points each to lead Fortuna in an 87-86 win over Ink Cream.

Taking the half at 47-39, Fortuna had a comfortable lead entering the second half but Ink Cream came out strong in the last two quarters to put the game on the line.

Fortuna, however, managed to hold on until the final buzzer to get away with the one-point victory.
