BCPO: Suspect in fatal stabbing
of fighting cock breeder nabbed

A man wanted for the fatal stabbing of a fighting cock breeder and several shooting incidents in Bacolod was nabbed by the police at about 3 a.m. yesterday in Brgy. Villamonte in the city.

Senior Insp. Dianne Grace Aquitania, Station 4 chief, said they arrested Gary Gonzales, 23, of Purok Kalantas, Brgy. Villamonte, on the strength of a warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Eliseo Geolingo, who denied him bail.

Gonzales was tagged as the prime suspect in the stabbing to death of Edgardo Pacheco Sr., 46, of Acacia Street, Brgy. Villamonte, Bacolod City, near a mini-bar at B.S. Aquino Drive in Bacolod City at about 1 a.m. on July 16 last year.

Police Officer 2 Raymond Bandojo, case investigator, told the DAILY STAR then that Pacheco came from a mini-bar and was on his way home when Gonzales stabbed him without provocation.

Pacheco, a fighting cock breeder, sustained a stab wound in the chest and was rushed to the Bacolod Doctors Hospital but was declared dead on arrival; while Gonzales fled with his three unidentified companions, Bandojo said.

Gonzales was also tagged in the shooting of Jerico Sagyon, 24, of Purok Active, Brgy. Mandalagan at about 1:10 a.m. on July 6 last year at Lopez Jaena Street, Brgy. Villamonte.

Sagyon sustained gunshot wounds in his chest and shoulder. The motive for the shooting has not been known, the police said.

The suspect also went on a shooting rampage and damaged a parked vehicle at the junction of Lopez Jaena Street and Narra Avenue in Bacolod City, at about 3 a.m. on February 6, police records showed.

Gonzales is now detained at the lockup cell of Police Station 4 and will be transferred to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.*APN
