BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

The Negros Oriental Electric Cooperative 2 will implement its latest rate adjustment, that took effect in February, and will be reflected in this month’s billing statement.

A residential consumer will be charged P10.46 per kilowatt-hour from the previous rate of P9.67 per kilowatt hour.

The hike follows the generation rate increase by one of the power suppliers of NORECO 2, Green Core Geothermal Inc., a subsidiary of the Energy Development Corporation.

Dumaguete dads, residents protest
mandatory helmet implementation

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

The Dumaguete City government is eyeing three options to prevent the full implementation of Republic Act 10054 or the Mandatory Helmet Law, in July this year.

These include a City Council resolution addressed to Senator Ramon Revilla Jr., principal author of RA 10054; a petition for a declaratory relief to be filed in the local court, and a signature campaign of constituents opposing its implementation, Vice Mayor Alan Gel Cordova said.

The resolution is asking Revilla to review, or come up with adjustments, considering the prevailing situation of Dumaguete motorcycle riders. The petition and signature campaign, meanwhile, is on hold while members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod are settling legal arguments, he added.

The filing of multiple physical injuries charges for the alleged maltreatment of their male house helper in Bacong, Negros Oriental, was recommended by a government prosecutor against Regan Alfanta and Sheila Marie Cielo Alfanta, residents of Sulupdan in Bacong town.

Special investigator Jess Cañete of the Commission on Human Rights in Negros Oriental said yesterday that he received a copy of the resolution of Assistant Prosecutor Maritess Macarrubo Friday, recommending the filing of the information against the couple.
