Negros athletes lead list of
multi-event medalists

Aside from winning the overall crown for the 19th time, host Negros Occidental also registered the most number of athletes who won two or more gold medals in the concluded Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet in Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City.

Cezar Fernadez of Molocaboc, Sagay City and Ceasar Ian Oberas of San Carlos City, won three gold medals each in their respective events in the elementary boys’ competition, while Erma Rose Gamao from Escalante reigned in secondary girls’ athletics, also with three gold medals.

Fernandez ruled the elementary boys’ long jump with a leap of 5.64 meters, triple jump with 11.88 meters and high jump, 1.60 meters for his golden haul.

Isner stuns Djokovic

World number 11 Isner fired his 20th ace of the match to topple defending champion and top seed Djokovic 7-6 (9/7), 3-6, 7-6 (7/5) on Saturday.

Federer used an ace on match point to seal a 6-3, 6-4 victory over world number two Rafael Nadal as the two renewed their epic rivalry with their first meeting at the Indian Wells Masters.

Isner's first victory over a world number one ensures he will move into the top 10 in the world rankings for the first time.
