The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority is adopting nine poor barangays in the provinces of Negros Oriental and Cebu, to make them productive by tapping the youth for technical vocational education and training, a press release from Tesda said.
These include barangays Mckenly and Pacuan in La Libertad; Azagra in Tanjay, and Villareal, Bayawan, all of Negros Oriental; and Apas, Labangon, Mambaling, Poblacion Compostela, and Alang-Alang, in Mandaue City, Cebu, the press release said.
Training certificates under Tesda’s Training for Work Scholarship Program worth P2.3 million are up for distribution to beneficiaries from these barangays based on the newly-launched adopt-a-barangay program, in coordination with local government units.
Competencies in various technical qualifications have shown the way for many graduates to employment locally or abroad, Joel Villanueva, director-general of Tesda, said in the press release.
Villanueva said he hopes that the trainees will be successful after completing their training programs and finding jobs that can help turn around the fate of the indigent communities.
The youths will be offered trainings on bartending, heavy equipment operation, hilot or wellness massage, and shielded metal arc welding, the press release added.*
