NCR dominates gymnastics

National Capital Region started its bid to retain the overall title yesterday with a strong finish in gymnastics with four gold medals, two each in the secondary and elementary divisions of the 2012 Palarong Pambansa at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center in Lingayen, Pangasinan.

Martoni Abana captured the gold in individual all-around performance and teamed up with silver medalist Jun Gwynn and bronze medalist Christopher Villanueva to give NCR the team championship in gymnastics.

Southern Tagalog seized the silver in the gymnastics team competition, followed by Central Luzon which bagged the silver.

In the elementary division, Carlos Edriel Yulo won the gold in the individual all-around event, followed by John Paul Lawrence Cabido of Region XII, with John Ivan Cruz, also of NCR, bagging the bronze.

In the triple jump for the secondary division, the gold went to John Miguel Lanuza of Southern Tagalog who leaped at 13.84 meters, followed by Julian Fuentes, the new record holder in long jump, of Cagayan Valley at 13.54 meters, while Lorenzo Capano of Western Visayas was in third at 13.45 meters.*with a report from PNA
