Shakey’s, Martha
dispute final seat

Batch 2006/Shakey’s and Batch 2003/2004/Martha will dispute the last final berth tonight in the 4th University of St. La Salle Alumni Association/LNA7 Sports Foundation Basketball Tournament.

It will be a do-or-die game between the two teams after Martha beat Shakey’s, 77-75, in their first encounter in the semifinals, Monday night. Shakey’s had the twice-to-beat advantage after taking the No. 2 spot in the team standings.

Michael Chan played the hero in Monday night’s win as he sank a trey with 2:06 left in the game.

Leading by one point in the final two minutes, Chan’s three-pointer extended his team’s lead to four points.

Shakey’s Rosue Banzuela’s two free throws cut the lead to two points at 73-75, but Mark Celestial managed to score on a layup to once again keep Martha ahead.

Not giving up the fight, Shakey’s Nicos Cuenca scored on a drive with 14.7 left in the game.

The chance to equalize and send the game into overtime fizzled out for Shakey’s as they failed to convert on their last play.

Edward Castellano led Martha scorers with 15 points, while Celestial finished with 8, Leandro Francisco and Andrew Torres added 7 points each,

as Chan, Donnie Aspero and Raymund Yusay contributed 6 points apiece.

Banzuela topscored for Shakey’s with 16 points, Sindol tallied 10 points, Jansen Aspero added 9, and Patrick Ramos and Carlos Sumugat had 6 points each.

Five BBC players scored in double digit with Amit Teruel registering 16, Marco Avecilla finished with 13 points, Nico Lopingco had 11, and Adrian Anglo and Timothy Dumancas with an identical 10-point output.
