Solons studying Benitez bill
to help sugarcane industry

BY CARLA GOMEZ

Two solons Saturday said they will review House Bill 6113 or the Sugarcane Industry Development Act of 2012 filed by Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) and will support if it is beneficial to the sugarcane industry.

Rep. Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito (San Juan, Lone District) and Rep. Ma. Milagros Magsaysay (Zambales, 1st District), who were in Bacolod City during the weekend, said if it is beneficial to the industry why not.

Benitez’s House Bill 6113 is geared towards revitalizing and strengthening the industry through a diversification, development and financing program.

Benitez said it is incumbent upon policy-makers to institute measures, both by legislation and executive implementation, to cushion, if not counter, the possible destabilization effects of the tariff lifting on imported sugar entering the Philippines by 2015.*CPG
