Escalante boxers dominate
Gov. Marañon Boxing cup

Boxers from Escalante City helped the 1st District collect eight gold and seven silver medals to capture the overall championship in the 3rd Negros First. Gov. Alfredo G. Marañon Jr. Boxing Cup held over the weekend in Silay City Covered Court.

Figuring prominently in the list of gold medalists from Escalante were female boxers Feedielyn Mantalaya, Sarah Jean and Sheila Mae Mag-osara, who prevailed over their opponents from the different areas in the province.

Mantalaya beat Socorro Talamante of Himamaylan City in the 36 kgs., Sarah Jean outclassed Renalyn Soberano of Murcia in the 48kgs., and Sheila Mae won over Rose Rosebelle Laurilla of Murcia in 50kgs. to carry the boxing team from the 1st District to the top of the tournament.

Also displaying their impressive skills inside the ring were Escalante pugs Greg Pableo, Johmil Casiple, and John Mahinay, Elmer Douma of Don Salvador Benedicto, and Carlo Peñalosa of San Carlos City who beat their respective rivals in separate bouts.

Young Pableo dominated the fight against Talisay City’s Jimlo Chua in Kids 26 kgs., Casiple Casiple scored a win against Christian Calapardo of Sipalay City, Mahinay posted a first round referee-stopped-contest against Candoni’s Jaypee Rivas in the Elite 46 kgs., Duoma won on points against Kyle Malunes of Cadiz City in Kids 32kgs., and Peñalosa outclassed Cadiznon Eric Hulleza in the Elite 49kgs.

Peñalosa also took home the best boxer award in his weight division.

Boxers from the 4th District, mostly composed of ring fighters from Bago City placed second overall with seven gold medals, and three silvers, while the 2nd District composed of boxers from the cities of Cadiz and Sagay and the town of Manapla placed third with five gold medals and three silvers.

The 6th District composed of Cauayan, Hinobaan, Ilog, Kabankalan and Sipalay finished with three gold and two silver medals, 5th District had three golds and a silver, and 3rd District with one gold and nine silver medals.

Gold medalists from the 4th District were Neil Tambanillo, who won over 1st District’s Richard Patoc in Kids 30 kgs., Jasper Anida over Mike Gian Duoma of 3rd District 3 in Schools Boys 38 kgs., Roselyn Gamo over Roxanne Alisna in Female 46 kgs; Argie Alabado over Murcia Elmer Liboon in the Youth 52kgs; Ronaldo Saturno over Nestor Bautista of Murcia in the Elite 56 kgs; and James Palicte over Romeo Redondo in the Elite 60 kgs.

Winners from the 2nd District were boxers Michael Adolfo on walk-over against Jonel Jimenez of EB Magalona in Kids 28 kgs; Clifford Celis of Cadiz City over Mark Lyndon Bolaños of Bago City in the School Boys 36 kgs; Aljun Oro of Sagay City, who defeated Bago City’s Reymart Flores in Youth 49 kgs; Arnold Jetajobe of Sagay City over Ernesto Alera of Murcia in Youth 46 kgs. and Arman Alpar of Cadiz City against Jaypee Oro of Escalante City in Elite 52 kgs.

Gold medalists from the 6th District were Neil Cyril Basillote of Candoni over John Robert Soledad of 3rd in Kids 34 kgs; Aljen Andung over Jonel Orbiso of 1st District in School Boys 42 kgs., and Cristy Rivas of Candoni, who retired Bago City’s Rowena Cabalayan in the Female 60 kgs.

Collecting the gold medal for the 5th District were Krista May Oliveros over Lyka Patoc in Female 42 kgs; Jordan Bautista, who beat 3rd District’s Reymark Liboon in the School Boys 46 kgs; and Mark Anthony Montinola, who defeated Cadiz City’s Jaylord Alonzo in Youth 48 kgs..

The lone gold medalist from the 3rd District 3 was Jonel Olvido, who beat Don Salvador Benedicto’s Ronie Campos in the School Boys 40 kgs.

The champion team received P5, 000 and trophy, while the first runner-up took home P3, 000 and trophy, and the second runner-up received P2, 000 and a trophy.
