Books donated to museum

The Museo sang Bata sa Negros and some schools in Sagay City, Negros Occidental, received books donated by the Gig and Amazing Sampaguita Foundation Inc., led by its founder and president, Marissa Oca, recently, a press release from the city said.

The donors were welcomed by Museo junior guides with a puppet show, and a song-and-dance number advocating love and protection for marine environment, and toured the facility and its “under the sea” exhibit, the press release also said.

Museum president Sonia Sarrosa said reading is a good learning process that develops the mental and emotional faculties of the youth. Oca said that, through her book donation project, she wants to nurture the memory of her son, Gig, who died when he was 17. GASFI has published 10 children’s books anchored on Filipino values and mirrored real-life situations often faced by the families of seamen.

Mayor Leo Rafael Cueva said the donation will augment the reading materials of school children, and will boost the program of the city in promoting and developing the love and habit for reading, the press release added.*
