LEAVES HEAD BENEATH CHRISTMAS TREE

BY
CARLA GOMEZ

A mentally unstable man beheaded his 70-year-old mother and placed her head beneath a Christmas tree at their residence in Barangay 7, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental, where it was discovered by a neighbor at about 6:07 a.m. yesterday, the town police chief said.

The head of Nenita Belleza was severed with the use of a bolo by her jobless son, Jojie Aguirre, 38, Senior Inspector Robert Mansueto said.

The rest of her body was found lying across the entrance to the  kitchen.

Their neighbor, Wilfredo Semillano, reported to the police that the septuagenarian had been beheaded by her son, a noted alcoholic, prompting the police to go to the Aguirre house, Mansueto said.

They found the remains of the woman and the bolo used to behead her in the house, and the incoherent assailant in bloodied clothes drinking alcohol outside their house, Mansueto added.

The assailant will be subjected to psychological evaluation, and charges for parricide will be filed against him, Mansueto said.

Police investigation showed that the suspect is suffering from depression and alcoholism, he said.

Mansueto said the suspect had been separated from his wife and children.

The suspect and his mother were the only ones at their house when the crime was committed.

The mother had reportedly gone to the Moises Padilla police the day before to ask that her son be detained because he was dangerous, but he was not jailed as he had not committed a crime.*CPG
