Little Miss MassKara bets known;
10 groups qualify for DanssKara

Twelve talented girls aged four to six years old will compete in the Little Miss MassKara pageant on October 13, organized by GMA Network in partnership with the Silver MassKara Festival Organization, a press release from the station said yesterday.

They are Melissa Jane Dueñas, Jirean Chris Jorbina, Sharlet Gallada, Yphanny Glam Tribaco, Katherine Mc Comish, Ej Marie Santillan, Mietozsylla Omega, Katrina Aragon, Honoria Fale Bantiling, Cloe Zoe Paderna, Gabrielle Zoe Mabaquiao and Mikaella Villanueva.

The candidates were chosen from more than 50 girls who showcased their talents in singing, dancing, acting and modeling in front of the screening committee, led by GMA assistant program manager for Regional TV, Dado Tan, Saturday at the SM City Event Centre, the press release also said.

A press presentation, festival costume and talent competition will be held 4 p.m. on October 8, also at SM, the press release added.

Meanwhile, 10 of 20 groups have qualified for the grand finals of the GMA DanssKara: The MassKara Dance Showdown on Oct. 22 at the Bacolod public plaza.

These are the War Crew, New Born Crew, Off Beat, Delta Heat Waves, New Oldz Crew, After Class Crew, Bacolod Free Stylerz, Real Gallians, YC Lakas Pinas, and True Friends, a press release from organizers said.

The competition, that is now on its second year, aims to highlight another breed of dancers who wear low-tech masks, festival director Eli Tajanlangit had said earlier.

The grand champion will win P15,000; first runner-up — P10,000, and second runner-up — P7,500. The rest of the finalists will receive P3,000, the press release added.*

More MassKara shows
set at Bacolod plaza

MassKara Festival organizers have lined up varied fun-filled activities at the Bacolod public plaza from Oct. 1 to 22 to reposition it as the “heart” of the celebration.

Every night starting at 7:30, kiosks at the San Juan, Gonzaga and Gatuslao sides of the plaza will have sing and dance contests to entertain Bacoleños and visitors alike, a press release from organizers said.

The “Tandậ! Sing Na, Dance Pa!” inter-barangay competition, in partnership with the Liga ng mga Barangay, will have five contestants competing in the vocal solo and another five for solo dance every night.

The contest is open to Bacoleños of all ages, Bacolod Councilor Mona Dia Jardin, Liga president, said in the press release.

The nightly winners for each category will compete in the weekly semi-finals on Oct. 7, 13, and 19. Grand finals will be on Oct. 22.

Meanwhile, the Parade of Masks and Drumbeaters will be held every 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 2 to 4, 8, 15, and 17 at the plaza; while the Nights of Mardi Gras will be from Oct. 9 to 11, 8:30 p.m., also at the plaza, the press release said.

A nightly SMB Music Night of band and disco will also be conducted every 7:30 p.m. at the San Juan, Gonzaga, and Gatuslao sides of the plaza, by San Miguel Brewery, a co-presenter of the MassKara Festival. A party featuring Rated PG Band and Chakra Brand will be presented by Coca-Cola, 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 13, at San Juan Street.

A nine-day novena for Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, secondary patron saint of Bacolod, will be conducted at the plaza, 6 p.m. Oct. 5 to 14, the press release also said.

The start of the MassKara Art Weekend, the “Majica MassKara 9: Ang Bukid kag Baybay sa Bacolod (The Mountain and the Sea in Bacolod)” will also be unveiled at the plaza, 7 p.m. Friday, the press release added.*

Skills, leadership
training held at DLNHS

A skills and leadership training, values education and feeding program was conducted by the Zonta Club of Bacolod for students of the Domingo Lacson National High School in Bacolod City recently, a press release from the group said.

The activity was led by Zonta president Merle Lizares and vice president Marilyn Marañon, with recording secretary Suzette Lacson, corresponding secretary Manon Hernaez, treasurer Carmencita Maalat, assistant treasurer Tess Nazarea, auditor Josie Agustin, public relations officer Patching Puentevella, and directors Nina Arceo, Lovelyn de la Cruz, Lina Lim and Taba Unson, the press release also said.

DLNHS principal Esteban Albacea thanked the club for bringing its program to the school as it was a big help to the development of the students.

Marañon said they plan to expand their program to other public schools in Negros Occidental.

The club is a member of Zonta International that is a worldwide service organization of professionals and executives in business working together to advance the status of women, the press release added.*

TV reality show finalist visits
Bacolod, other areas today

Chanel Morales, the pride of Negros and Panay in the P20 million reality show on national television, will visit Bacolod, Silay and Talisay cities today for charity and motorcade activities, and to thank Negrenses for their continued support to her, a press release from promoters said.

The 16-year-old will be accompanied by her mom, Emie, and TV5 Artista Academy producer and TV crew, and will be welcomed at the Bacolod-Silay Airport by the Silay Tourism Office staff. The group will proceed to a charitable institution in Silay where Morales will hold gift-giving activities for the aged and orphans, the press release also said.

Other activities are courtesy calls on Silay Mayor Jose Montelibano and Talisay Mayor Eric Saratan, visit to the Carlos Hilado Memorial State College, and to the St. Scholastica's Academy in Bacolod City where Morales graduated from high school this year.

She will also call on Mayor Evelio Leonardia at the Bacolod Government Center, meet members of the local media, and proceed to Iloilo City later for similar undertakings, the press release added.*
