Mental Health Week
commemoration on

The 62nd National Mental Health Week will be celebrated by the Philippine Mental Health Association Negros Occidental–Bacolod Chapter today until Friday.

In line with the 20th World Mental Health Day set Wednesday the theme is “Depression: A Global Crisis”, a press release from the group said.

An interactive forum, “Depression in Children”, is set at 1:30 p.m. October 10 at the MassKara Hall of the Bacolod City Government Center, with child psychiatrist Jocelyn Gauzon–Gayares as resource person, the press release said.

Other activities are a television interview in the “The Morning Show” with PMHA chapter executive manager Rose Jessica Octaviano tomorrow, and a thanksgiving mass, 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bacolod City has approved Resolution 755 series of 2012, declaring October 10 as World Mental Health Day and October as Mental Health Month.

Meanwhile, orientation lectures on vision, mission, goals, programs and services, and the objectives of the Lusog Isip Ng Kabataan Club, have also been conducted by the PMHA Neg. Occ.-Bacolod to students of the Negros Occidental High School, Bacolod Christian College of Negros, Luisa Medel NHS, Brgy. Sincang-Airport NHS, Bata NHS, La Consolacion College–Bacolod, Luis Hervias NHS, and Domingo Lacson NHS, its press release said.

The activity aims to encourage students to organize or reorganize their own LINK clubs to increase involvement in the promotion of sound mental health in the community. The lectures were conducted by Octaviano and program officer Harold Villanueva, and were facilitated by the guidance counselors and values education faculty members of the schools.

Children’s Month marked

The 114 daycare centers in Bacolod City are observing October as Children’s Month, a press release from the city said.

Department of Social Services and Development head, Sally Abelarde, said activities being undertaken are cultural events, poster-making contests and field trips, the press release also said.

The DSSD also said it continues to identify household beneficiaries of the P1,400 per month children’s education and health needs under the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program of the government.

New applicants to the program were briefed Saturday at the JR Torres Elementary School in Brgy. Singcang-Airport, and Brgy. Bata, both of Bacolod City, the press release added.*
