2-day agri fair set

The Provincial Agriculture Office will hold activities in line with its annual NegOrganic Farm Family agri-fair tomorrow and Thursday on the theme “Organic Agriculture: Gearing Towards Sustainable Growth in Negros Oriental," at the Provincial Nursery Compound in Dumaguete City.

Gov. Roel Degamo will open and keynote the affair that will gather registered rural-based organizations composed of farmers, fishers, rural improvement clubs and 4-H club members in the province for a series of demonstrations, cook-offs, and other contests, a government press release said.

The contests to be held are quiz bee, poster-making, extemporaneous speaking, retro minus-one sing and look-alike, Kuracha courtship dance, vocal duet, and dancesport.

Highlight on the first day is the Miss 4-H beauty pageant. A "pinaka" contest will also be held 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on vegetables and fruits brought by farmers. The produce will be displayed in booths for the exhibit of organically-grown farm products from the towns and cities in the province.

On October 11, simultaneous sectoral activities and contests will be held, like 4-H method demonstration through a cassava-based cooking contest, handicraft demo featuring accessories, formulation of organic fertilizer, RIC skill demo on fruit peeling, innovative products, and corn husk dendrobium, the press release also said.

Other activities are fish catching hook and line, making calderetang tilapia, crab-catching, and cooking skill demonstration on chevon, or goat meat. The culmination and awarding program will be held 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, the press release added.*
