Four-cornered fight
for governor looms

The gubernatorial race in the May 13, 2013 elections in Negros Oriental will be contested by the incumbent governor, a former Cabinet secretary, an incumbent House representative, and a businessman.

Records of the Provincial Commission on Elections how that Gov. Roel Ragay Degamo (PDP-Laban), Rep. Jocelyn Sy Limkaichong of the first district (Liberal Party), former Finance Secretary Margarito Bustaliño Teves (NPC) and Samuel Torres Balbuena (Independent), have filed their certificates of candidacy for governor of Negros Oriental.

There are also three candidates for vice governor: re-electionist Apolinario Arnaiz Jr. (NPC), Edward Mark Lopez Macias (LP), and Henry Alegria Sojor (PDP-Laban).

Probe on involvement of councilor
in ‘hot meat’ incident ordered

Dumaguete City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria has asked Vice Mayor Alan Gel Cordova to investigate a recent anti-hot meat operation involving a Sangguniang Panlungsod member.

Sagarbarria said that the incident on September 21 involving Councilor Antonio Remollo, is within the jurisdiction of the SP.

The Hot Meat Surveillance Team of Task Force Sagarr had swooped down on a vendor, identified as Jerry Barrera, who was allegedly roasting a pig near his house at Cervantes Extension in Barangay 8.

2-day agri fair set

The Provincial Agriculture Office will hold activities in line with its annual NegOrganic Farm Family agri-fair tomorrow and Thursday on the theme “Organic Agriculture: Gearing Towards Sustainable Growth in Negros Oriental," at the Provincial Nursery Compound in Dumaguete City.

Gov. Roel Degamo will open and keynote the affair that will gather registered rural-based organizations composed of farmers, fishers, rural improvement clubs and 4-H club members in the province for a series of demonstrations, cook-offs, and other contests, a government press release said.

The contests to be held are quiz bee, poster-making, extemporaneous speaking, retro minus-one sing and look-alike, Kuracha courtship dance, vocal duet, and dancesport.
