How many own a Honda Civic?

Rolly Espina

I may be the confirmed optimist when I say that the owner of the Honda Civic car used as getaway vehicle in the shooting of Raymundo Longo will be easy to trace.

And, possibly, that it may lead to solving the identities of the two gunmen – purportedly members of the PNP who used their guns against Longno in Malaspina Street, Brgy. Villamonte, Sunday.

It is true that private citizens were reportedly using commemorative plates of the PNP and not just members of the police force since the commemorative plates were for the benefit of the agency.

But it takes only a few clicks of the computer to trace who was the one who had bought the commemorative plate used by the getaway vehicle.

It does not require much effort for the police to get to the bottom of that mystery. There are not too many Honda Civics in Bacolod and the province of Negros Occidental.

So it's easy to pinpoint the owner of that vehicle.

The mystery can boil down on who were the alleged policemen who were the triggermen who did away with Longno a day after he had done away with lawyer Johnny Chua, owner of the Eastview Hotel along the Circumferential road in Villamonte.

Longno's killing was too proximate to the Chua murder that it seems it is just an aftermath of Chua's death. Or revenge for it.

Oh, one hears a lot of stories about Chua and what could have caused his assassination. One of them is that he used his legal background as a lawyer to mask his takeover of a business establishment of a debtor since Chua was also involved in the money-lending business.

The local Chinese community often talks about it and the business practices of Chua and how it could have alienated the alleged mastermind of his killing.

While Chief of Police Ricardo de la Paz tried to distance Longno's death from the Chua killing, still it was too proximate to spark the suspicion that it was just a matter of an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth arrangement.

That was intended more to do away with somebody who could pinpoint the suspected mastermind of Chua's death.

Of course, as I had said, I heard rumors of a different version of Longno's death as more of a personal revenge by somebody whom Longno had earlier tried to kill but failed to.

The Bacolod police, I am sure, by now already have the identities of the two gunmen in Longno's killing identified. Of course, a lot depends on the witnesses.

That they are policemen in something that cannot be ruled out too easily. They are the only ones who can do it with impunity, and not be afraid of being linked to the Longno's killing.

Still, mistakes had been made and that mistake can prove fatal to the two gunmen.

As I had pointed out earlier, having long been a member of the Manila Police Reporters' Guild. I had my prolonged experience in police handling of investigation and the efficiency with which they did it.

And soon, I am sure, the Bacolod Police chief will able to unravel the mystery of Longno's death as well as that of Chua's assassination.

It is easy to distinguish between the two killing, but one thing that refuses to go away is the awareness that the second one – Longno's – happened just a few hours after Chua's.

That is something that will need a lengthy explanation to clearly separate and distinguish from each other.

Expect a breakthrough in the police probe into the “mysterious” killings.

I don't think that the SP of the province will delay approval of the budget for the pay hike of some P100-million granted them under the Salary Standardization Law.

But as earlier pointed out, there is no need for the capitol employees to picket the capitol since the SP finance committee is urgently speeding up the deliberation on the budget.

In short, all they need to do is just to wait for a short while for what is due and as nobody in his/her right senses would want them to lose what they are entitled to.*
