The bullet used by the gunman in the murder of a businessman Monday night in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, was of a government type that cannot be obtained easily by civilians.

Supt. Alet Virtucio, deputy provincial police director for administration, said the spent shell recovered at the scene where Aries Christopher Alvarez was gunned down, bore the marking “RPA”.

He said “RPA” stands for “Republic of the Philippines Arsenal”, a head-stamp code imprinted on small arms ammunition manufactured by the Government Arsenal of the Philippines.

Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office director, Senior Supt. Edward Carranza, reiterated his warning to all chiefs of police in the province about the one- strike policy of the Philippine National Police.

He ordered the CoPs to ensure the active and intensified campaign against all forms of illegal activities, like gambling, loose firearms and drugs.

Senior Police Officer 1 Edilberto Euraoba III of NOPPO said the one-strike policy directs all police chiefs to pursue illegal gambling operators and financiers, and file cases against them.

Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer Oscar Magallones called on indigenous peoples in Negros Oriental Tuesday to practice responsible mining to prevent the destruction of the environment.

In a forum held in line with the ongoing National Indigenous People's Month celebration at the Negros Oriental Convention Center, Magallones said the Mines and Geosciences Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources has laid out measures to reduce the impact of mining activities on the environment.

Renante Cabanag of the indigenous tribes in Negros Oriental said about 80 percent of the IP communities favored mining, and 20 percent are opposed to it.
