138 senior citizens in
Bacolod receive pensions

One hundred thirty-eight senior citizens, aged 77 years old and up, yesterday received their P500 monthly pensions from city officials during the distribution ceremony at the Bacolod Government Center, a press release from the city said.

The pensioners, who have zero income and are non-members of the Social Security System or the Government Service Insurance System are each entitled to a quarterly release of P1,500 or P500 monthly from the Department of Social Services and Development, the press release also said.

Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson led city officials in the distribution of pensions, along with DSSD social welfare officers Consolacion Espinosa, Harriet Alcantara and Consuelo Yaun, and councilors Em Ang and Al Victor Espino.

Ang reminded the elderly to use the money exclusively for themselves, their food and medicine, and Espino assured them of the continuous support of the city government.

They said senior citizens can look forward to better accommodation in hospitals, eateries, transportation facilities, and supermarkets, because ensuring their welfare and interest are a major thrust of the government, the press release also said.

The activity was witnessed by members of the Tangub Lions Club and Jorge Joniega, head of the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs in Bacolod, the press release added.*
