Sitio Duka, Barangay Bagawines in Vallehermoso, Negros Oriental, was recently energized by the Negros Oriental Electric Cooperative I.
The switching-on rites was attended by Gov. Roel Degamo, Vallehermoso Mayor Joniper Villegas, Vice Mayor An Gustillo and officials of NORECO I.
Bagawines is an upland barangay included in the priority areas for rural electrification project of the provincial government and the electric cooperative. The province allotted P1 million for its energization.
Degamo said the province continuously identifies programs and projects needed in the barangays to best serve the people. He added that electrification helps improve the living condition of the Negrenses, and that the relay of information through the radio and television is very important especially during calamities, like earthquake and typhoon.
He said he also believes that electrification helps solve or minimize the problem of insurgency in far-flung areas.*MA
