32ND NOPSSCEA
season opens today

It’s all systems go for the 32nd Negros Occidental Private Schools. Sports, Cultural, and Educational Association season as the meet opens this afternoon, 2 p.m. at the Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod Gym in Bacolod City.

NOPSSCEA Sports Task Force chairman Anthony Carlo Agustin said this year’s season will be ushered by a motorcade around the city, followed by a simple program at the CSA-B Gym.

All 61-member schools are expected to send their representatives to the opening ceremonies with basketball player and celebrity Chris Tiu as guest speaker. Tiu was recently drafted into the Philippine Basketball Association and will play for the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters.

Students from the Twin Stars Learning Center will give the doxology at the start of the program followed by the welcome remarks from NOPSSCEA Vice President Dana Marie Casiano.

After the entrance of banners by the WNU ROTC, the CSA-B Kagayon Dance Troupe will entertain the crowd with a production number.

Members of the NOPSSCEA Board of Directors will hoist the NOPSSCEA Banner, while Junior Mustangs Kraniel Villoria, member of the Western Visayas high school boys’ basketball team that finished third in the 2012 Palarong Pambansa in Pangasinan, will light the torch.

The player’s Oath of Sportsmanship will be led by University of St. La Salle Lady Stinger Patty Jean Orendain, member of the USLS volleyball women’s team that captured the title in the 2011 National University Games in Roxas City.

NOPSSCEA president Dr. Gereon Cabarles of CSA-B will declare the formal opening of the competition and will join Agustin and Tiu in the ceremonial toss for the game between WNU and UNO-R.

The USLS Animo Cheer Force will perform a dance number in the intermission, while CSA-B Eagles and USLS Stingers will play in the second game set at 6:30 p.m.

GAMES THIS WEEKEND

Meanwhile, Agustin said that competition in badminton, chess, lawn tennis, and volleyball will start tomorrow in different venues.

Badminton will be played at the Po Hang Badminton Center, while the WNU Covered Court will be the venue for the chess competition and USLS for the lawn tennis and volleyball events.

Basketball games will resume on Sunday at the USLS Coliseum with the Eagles facing the Rams in first game at 5 p.m., followed by the clash between the Mustangs and Stingers in the second game.*NAB
