2 top policemen relieved
from PNP Neg. Or. roster

Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office director Senior Supt. Edward Carranza yesterday confirmed that former Dumaguete police chief, Supt. Crisaleo Tolentino, and Provincial Anti Illegal Drugs Operations Task Group head, Insp. Janelito Marquez, have officially been dropped from the roster of the NOPPO.

The two are undergoing in-depth investigation after a controversial confrontation and misunderstanding ensued between them and their men. This was when a suspected drug pusher, whom Tolentino claimed was their asset, was arrested by the PAIDSOTG recently.

Carranza said Tolentino and Marquez were asked to report to the PNP Regional Office 7 in Cebu. He said he has no idea when the result of the investigation will be released because the case is now under the PNP 7.

He added that he has no direct involvement in the investigation as it is an internal matter and the decision of it and the new assignments of both officers will depend on its result.

He admitted receiving calls from politicians in Negros Oriental, but he said he has not been intimidated. He said the job of the PNP and the politicians are separate fields and he will not allow policemen to be tainted by politics.

Dumaguete City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria had earlier said he will not interfere with the investigation, and he believes the truth will come out as Tolentino is an honest and an excellent police chief of Dumaguete.*PNA
