Father hacks son
on Christmas eve
BY RENE GENOVE

A father hacked the face of his son with a scythe, while other men were victims of stabbing on Christmas eve in Dumaguete City .

Barangay Captain of Cantil-e, Alejandra Sanchez, reported to the police the hacking of Jessie Wahing by his father, Teodoro. The son was brought to the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital for treatment.

Police said both father and son were under the influence of intoxicating liquor, and an old grudge is being eyed as the motive behind the incident.

Philippine Army troopers recovered another body of a suspected New People's Army rebel yesterday in the hinterlands of Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental, in the course of military operations against the insurgents.

Military officials had earlier announced that the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army suffered a big blow when a purported plenum scheduled Dec. 29 was aborted by the raid on the rebels' newly erected camp in Sitio Tuyupan, Barangay Talalak in Sta. Catalina, that is about 2.5 kilometers from Sitio Avocado.

The officers said they had received information from an “insider” in the NPA in southern Negros Oriental about the scheduled plenum celebrating this year's 41 st founding anniversary of the CPP-NPA.

3,500 dogs
extricated: PVO
BY ROMY AMARADO

Rabies infection in Negros Oriental this year claimed the lives of 3,500 dogs that were “put to sleep” through euthanasia, Provincial Veterinarian Antonio Mutia, in his year-end report, said.

Most of the dogs were euthanized because they were left strayed by their owners, Mutia said yesterday. Most of the 25 cities and towns in the province have ordinances on rabies that calls for the extermination of stray dogs.

Dumaguete City Veterinarian Lourdes Socorro assured that the dogs were euthanized humanely, such as injecting on them anesthetic medicine or placing them in a gas chamber-like room.
