One of the four suspects in the fatal shooting of an hacienda watchman was arrested Monday night by the police in Brgy. Don Jorge Araneta, Bago City , Negros Occidental.

Supt. Melchor Coronel, Bago police chief, yesterday identified the arrested suspect as Edwin Suarez, of Hacienda Montara in the barangay.

File mauling charges,
painter's family urged

If the family of Joseph Durable believes that Police Station 6 chief, Senior Insp. Ulysses Ortiz, and his men had something to do with his mauling, they should file charges against them, Bacolod City Police officer-in-charge Senior Supt. Celestino Guara said yesterday.

Durable, 31, a painter from Brgy. 28, Bacolod was arrested after he threw a bottle of beer at Gonzaga Extension and was detained at Station 6, where the detainees allegedly maltreated him on orders of a policeman.

Ortiz has denied the allegations of Durable. He said the detainees maltreated him because he vomited on their food.

Guara said that the Bacolod police can investigate the incident, but he is suggesting that the family file the case before the offices of the Police Internal Affairs Service, or the National Police Commission Office.

“We would like to avoid suspicion of a white-wash because Ortiz is a Bacolod police chief,” Guara said.

He said he was able to talk to one of Durable's relatives and advised them on what to do.*APN
